OK, so I’ve had some pretty hefty fits over the past few days over religion killing people and sending us back to the fucking stone-age, american politics bleeding into every corner of our lives, no matter where on the planet we live, bigotry, lies, the unjustifiable focus we give the state of Lindsay Lohan’s fucking prison stay instead of what your government is doing to make sure you have a roof over your head and a school for your children to go to, and how the world is generally going to shit because you, YES YOU, are all too fucking stupid and apathetic to do ANYTHING about it except slouch on the couch with a bag of doritos soaking up the latest crack-addict they’re wheeling out to audition for your attention on America’s Got Talent.

But no, I’m not going to drone on about that right now, because I have done it so much in the past few days. I’m just going to let it go, and focus on some things that ironically distract me from the miasmic state the world is in (because once you do give it the focus you thought it deserved, it dawns on you just how wrong your estimates were): Music.

More specifically, as many of you might already know, ze Metal muzak.

I keep a pretty keen eye on Metalstorm‘s listing of New Releases, and once I see something I like, I’m quick to acquire it. And lately there have been some fucking champs that have caught my eye (and probably more importantly, my ears).

There has apparently been a lot of controversy about Tristania picking up some new girl to sing for them, but since I don’t give a shit about cretinous louts or their petty gossip, I was unaware of this drama and instead chose to just judge the music by its own merits. If I cared about drama in my music I’d go to an opera or a ballet or something equally faggy and worthless. Regardless, my impression is that this is a solid piece of work that deserves attention. Here’s their official video for the song “Year of the rat”.

Tristania - Year of the rat

Granted this is far more melodic and less forceful than what typically attracts my favor, but you can’t deny this is some pretty decent beats.

Next up, I guess a return to form for me, Kataklysm’s new epic: “Heaven’s Venom”. These are more primal and basic riffs at work, riddled with my signature characteristic and most endearing trait: Misanthropy, of course. This is a bit out of their comfort zone, and might not be instantly recognizable as Kataklysm as they seem to have concentrated a bit more on groove and pacing, but some of these songs still make me really just headbang like fucking crazy, especially the first track. All of it is great, but at 2:25 it takes on a new dimension of fucking awesome.

Kataklysm - A soulless god

Next, the most pleasant surprise all year for me: Rosetta! Yes, I am a Rosetta fan as well. They’re weird for me, placing little emphasis on lyrics other than as a tool to enhance the soundscape, and being very docile in general. The thrash is there, but so toned down and refined that I’ve had several people who were initially VERY apprehensive about listening to a metal band at all tell me “this is incredibly relaxing stuff”. Their new album, “A determinism of Morality”, is a little feistier than usual, but the general tone of the band has not changed dramatically.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything off the new album to entertain you with, but here’s something from one of their older albums, “Galilean Satelites”:

Rosetta - Itinérant

And lastly, a sort of guilty pleasure for me because I’d really compare them musically to myGRAIN or Sonic Syndicate. At least this band don’t have Avril Lavigne to inspire their image though, since they instead favor a very grounded down to earth swedish look. Talking about Soilwork, of course.

Soilwork has just always piqued my curiousity because they never seem consistent. I’m phrasing it like that, because although to some it is a sign of strength and creativity, to me it’s always just seemed like an inabillity to really locate and stick with a style, signalling that they might not have one. They were perilously close to In Flames for a good while, participating in the music video for Trigger in a mock fight, which the allegations of plagiarism between the two was no doubt the source of. Despite this light-hearted mockery of such allegations, listening to early In Flames and Soilwork side by side, one can’t help but notice the striking similarities.

Still, if the music’s good and all that, why give two shits about such trivialities right? Again, this new album, “The Panic Broadcast”, is very “metalcore”-esque, which is a major disincentive to many metalheads that I know, which is understandable when you consider the likes of precisely myGRAIN and Sonic Syndicate’s almost religious devotion to making metal look INCREDIBLY fucking gay and obnoxious, but for some reason it still feels distinct from it because it sounds just that little bit more grounded and visceral. There are no Avril Lavigne lookalikes playing the bass in this fucking band, I can assure you.

Soilwork - Deliverance is mine

This concludes the praise of the music that has kept me sane these past few days. You should all check it out, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Torrents so you can check it out before you buy it!

New Soilwork

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucker,
Fuck the motherfucker hes a fucking motherfucker.
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the fucking fucker,
Fuck the motherfucker hes a total fucking fucker
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucker,
Fuck the mother fucker, fuck him, fuck the motherfucker.
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucking pope.

Fuck the motherfucker, and fuck you motherfucker
If you think that motherfucker is sacred.
If you cover for another motherfucker whos a kiddy-fucker,
Fuck you, youre no better than the motherfucking rapist.
And if you dont like the swearing that this motherfucker forced from me
And reckon it shows moral or intellectual paucity
Then fuck you motherfucker, this is language one employs
When one is fucking cross about fuckers fucking boys

I dont give a fuck if calling the pope a motherfucker
Means you unthinkingly brand me an unthinking apostate.
This has nowt to do with other fucking godly motherfuckers
Im not interested right now in fucking scriptural debate.
There are other fucking songs and there are other fucking ways,
Ill be a religious apologist on other fucking days,
But the fact remains if you protect a SINGLE kiddy fucker
Then Pope or Prince or Plumber, youre a fucking mother fucker.

See I dont give a fuck what any other motherfucker
Believes about Jesus and his motherfucking mother.
Ive no problem with the spiritual beliefs of all these fuckers
While those beliefs dont impact on the happiness of others,
But if you build your church on claims of fucking moral authority
And with threats of hell impose it on others in society,
Then you, you motherfuckers, can expect some fucking wrath
When it turns out youve been fucking us in our motherfucking asses.

So fuck the motherfucker, and fuck you motherfucker
If youre still a motherfucking papist.
If he covered for a single motherfucker whos a kiddy-fucker,
Fuck the motherfucker, hes as evil as the rapist.
And if you look into your motherfucking heart and tell me true
If this motherfucking stupid fucking song offended you,
With its filthy fucking language and its fucking direspect,
If it made you feel angry, go ahead and write a letter,
But if you find me more offensive than the fucking possibility
The pope protected priests when they were getting fucking fiddly
Then listen to me motherfucker – this here is a fact,
You are just as morally misguided as that motherfucking,
Power-hungry, self-aggrandized bigot in the stupid fucking hat.

This is the weirdest, most obnoxious, crappiest, most hilarious, incredibly awkward tasteless blend of genres I have ever fucking experienced. As part of a “You laugh or rage you lose” wager, I was forced to watch this music video. At first viewing, it made me angry. Angry that there was music like this out there, that there were people who enjoyed it, and that they were allowed to keep fucking breathing.

But after a while, I penetrated that. And being that it was like a horrible car crash to watch (…can’t… take… eyes… off… horror…), I gave it a few more viewings. At 2 minutes they start screaming down hot girls dancing nonchalantly by a couple of Range Rovers (by the way, Range Rovers? What the fuck?) and at that point I just keeled over laughing. It must have been hard for them to keep their cools standing in front a suburbanite Soccer Mom’s SUV trying to dance while some idiot with a streaked mop on his fucking head is forcing a mix of techno, rap, and screamo down your ears. They say violence on TV desensitizes todays youth. Fuck that, after this video, you will be blaming MTV.

Actually a lot of you probably are already.

I can kind of respect them for soliciting the wide spectrum of emotion I experienced watching their video, and listening to their music, but at the same time I still think they are to be slaughtered on sight, their heads and genitalia cut off and tied to the mailbox of their drug addled cul-de-sac dwelling parents to send a message that evolutionary failures like this, for the greatest happiness of the greatest number, should never be allowed to crawl out of the fetid womb where they gestated. It really goes to show that not every ejaculation deserves a name.

For all you craven Beatles fans out there

The Beatles’ albums came out on CD in 1987, but fans have long complained that the early digital technology used to remaster the recordings left them sounding hollow and thin — and that the official remasters are way overdue. That’s where Purple Chick comes in — a secretive fan (or group of fans) who has been quietly remastering classic discs like Revolver and A Hard Day’s Night, and releasing the digital files for free online. How is this possible? The Beatles’ CDs sound so bad that carefully digitized tracks from pristine vinyl copies are noticeably better — with crisper highs, a fuller soundstage, and more realistic reproduction of instruments and voices. And the Purple Chick editions are superior to the originals in other ways, too: The Sgt. Pepper collection contains the original record in mono and stereo, and four discs’ worth of studio outtakes; the White Album comes in a whopping twelve-disc version, including alternate takes, studio chatter, demos and fascinating jams.

So how do you get this stuff?

So, after a good while listening exclusively to Gothenburg metal and Melodeath, I felt a bit like relaxing and downloaded a truckload of rock (new and old). But then after a while even the new Muse got boring (and the new Muse was pretty fucking awesome mind you), so I felt like getting some incredi-bad super hardcore grinding death metal.

Now, since NONE of the bands I found are available on torrents at all, I figured I had 2 options, and I will probably explore them both in due time, but for now I’m going to go with the one that demands the least from me, which should hardly be a shocker for anyone.

Bands like Origin, A Life Once Lost, The Ocean, Soilent Green, Vision of Disorder, and Sick Of It All, have really been dominant on my playlist lately, but they are ridiculously hard to get a hold of in digital form (though DC++ or RevConnect proves a pretty good option to spending money before you hear it).

However, Myspace Music seems to be pretty open to bands like this, so I decided to link the bands I could find that I really liked.

I always liked this band, for some strange reason. I’m not really much of a punk rock fan, but these guys are pretty damn good. I haven’t listened to them for probably 6 years, but the other day I remembered them and got hold of the album that struck a chord with me, oh so many years ago called “Straight Ahead”.

I was even more surprised that even after all those years, I find the album enjoyable to listen to, and the songs “Alien”, “Victim of reality”, “Still can be great”, “Watch me as I fall”, “American Dream” and more are just timeless to me. Alot of music I liked when I was younger faded as I grew older, sort of like the magic of the epic hero cartoons they used to show on Cartoon Network. But then again some things never go out of style.

So I thought I’d share this one with you, seeing as I found it really worthwhile.

Often times you find yourself confronted with that question. Well some times the genres requested, or the bands used to make comparisons are just too fucking obscure for even me, even though I pride myself of being much of a musical omnivore.

But I have a cure for it, that so far has worked well for me. But then, the part about me being a musical omnivore might be a big factor in that. But it seems not only I find this site to be “the shizzles”, no it’s very universally accepted.

The jargon they use to describe the hits are pretty pompous though, but I ask you to look beyond that. I just did a search for it to find something like “Enslaved and Condemned” by Old Man’s Child and it gave me a fuckton of stuff by alot of bands (like MindGrinder, Demiricous, Gorgoroth, Dimmu Borgir, Vital Remains, If Hope Dies etc etc etc). Even though I had heard alot of it before, I’d say they’re pretty accurate.

http://pandora.com/ give it a shot.

Torrent time! I’ve got some music, some comedy, and a TV show that just hit the Adult Swim part of Cartoon Network, that makes my heart warmer and less blackened just hearing of its existance. So let’s get the fucking show rolling shall we? Big shit goes first.

Ron White, which most of you should be familiar with by now, has a more recent stand up show he did, called “You can’t fix Stupid” which I thought was pretty awesome. And you probably will too.

Ron White – You Can’t Fix Stupid 674mB

This one is of the master. The late, the great, Mr. Bill Hicks. This is the last show he ever did before he passed away, and just because of that, it’s worth your bandwidth. And you know it.

Bill Hicks – Last Show Ever 650mB

Now on to a new show on cartoon network, called Metalocalypse. I don’t want to explain it, but it’s basically about Norwegian Black Metal and shit, and here’s a small ad that’s been youtubed so you can more easily make up your mind about it being fucking awesome.

Metalocalypse – S01E01 119mB

And now, the metal music.

Oh yeah, the latest behemoth of an album from the by now legendary Mastodon has been leaked, and I know you are just fucking pining to listen to it. Atleast I was, and I wasn’t disappointed either.

Mastodon – Blood Mountain

MushroomHead also has a new album leaked, and I thought it was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but then I’ve only heard 30 seconds of the first song so far.

MushroomHead – Savior Sorrow

Lastly, a band that has gotten alot of shit since it signed with Epic Records. I don’t know what it is with corekids, but the moment a good band gets signed to a major label, suddenly the word “Sellouts” gets tossed left and right. I for one think they make kickass fucking music, and that’s all you should concern yourself with, lest you be a fucking scenester cocksucker. Get the fucking album.

Eighteen Visions – Eighteen Visions

Fucking kickass music man. That’s all I have to say. This is fucking kickass.

All That Remains – The Fall of Ideals

When it rains it pours. This post will probably be shorter though and less descriptive because I’m tired and lazy. Just rest assured all of these are good albums.

First off, Jason Newsted’s new band since 2001, Voivod. The new Katorz album has plenty of snappy riffs and avant-garde thrash inspirations. Fancy shit, worth the listen.

Voivod – Katorz

Next, some heavy hitting thrash from Shadows Fall. Being compared to Soilwork, In Flames and At The Gates is no easy thing to live up to, but they seem to manage quite well with their new album “Fallout from the War”. If you liked the referenced bands, you will also appreciate this.

Shadows Fall – Fallout from the War

Now for some good old Power Metal, Stormwitch is here to deliver with their Best Of album, Priest of Evil.

Stormwitch – Priest of Evil

And finally, some rock from Montrose. Good classical rock from the 70′s never dies.

Montrose – Self titled album + Paper Money album

Alright metalheads, it’s that time again. Time to take Jay’s sound advice on what’s the killer music to get, and trust me. Because I am just that great. First off, a band that just delivers time and time again, the S Y L, Strapping Young Lad. We’re going to have to start taking bets on how many albums he can make this year, and if they will all be as incredibly good as the 3 he made last year.

But here they are, with The New Black promo that just leaked. Remember to buy this one when it hits the street kids, you fucking know it’s worth it.

Strapping Young Lad – The New Black 80mB

Next up the new Enslaved album which has gotten acclaim across the bar, Ruun. Every song on this album is painstakingly constructed with incredible diversity. You’ll hear everything from soft acoustic guitars to an all out metal assault. Symphonic black metal mixes with progressive and Viking influences. They also have melodic vocals alongside the black metal rasps.

Enslaved – Ruun 82mB

From Sweden hails Scaar, a band that plays modern thrash metal with a high dose of energy. Already from the beginning of ‘The Second Incision’ one can deduce how the album will sound. In-your-face metal with hard-hitting drums and guitar riffs not to mention groovy basslines and morose vocals.

There’s something rather appealing about some of the Scaar’s songs. It might be the raw power and the straightforward attitude that makes an impression to me. Worth the listen.

Scaar – The Second Incision 74mB

Cult black metal act, DARKTHRONE, picked up their game after a lackluster few albums in the late ’90s/early 2000s with 2004′s Sardonic Wrath. Their latest offering, perhaps a claim to their continued significance, The Cult is Alive, is a loose but exciting album that sees the Norwegian duo kick it up a notch. Instead of the mid-paced plodding DARKTHRONE threw at us with Ravashing Grimness and Plagueweilder, Nocturno Culto and Fenriz have sharpened their fangs and wits with some bouncier necro-riffs.

The Cult is, indeed, very much alive.

Darkthrone – The Cult is Alive 73mB

Indie Metal? Maybe not, but Zao delivers some of what may be the most exciting new styles I’ve heard since I first put on a Tool album. Right off the bat, I can hear this is going to be something special and unique, and it delivers just what I want, and so much more. Extreme riffs, relentless, face melting and brutal, but with melodies at the core. Just what the doctor ordered.

Zao – The Fear is what Keeps Us Here 66mB

Some more metal music for you. Apparently I have a strong inclination towards the melodic side of metal (some would argue), and I agree I prefer melodic to non-melodic. Though there are moments for everything. Some times I just ache to hear 1349, NOPLACETOHIDE, Bloodthorn, Dismember, Venom, Akercocke, Hypocrisy etc. I listen to it all. But normally I do very much lean towards the melodic.

So here’s some melodies for you.

As I Lay Dying – Shadows are Security

Prong – Scorpio Rising

Rage – Speak of the Dead

I told you I would put up some hot classic rock torrents, and here they are now.

The Beatles. They have to be mentioned. I’ve found the Black Box Set, containing 16 CD’s, so here’s that for you. I also complete collections of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, so there’s also those for you to get.

The Beatles – Black Box Set (16 CD collection)

Complete Pink Floyd Collection

Also, while I’m on the subject of music, though this is not classic rock it is Mastodon and Mastodon kicks major ass.

Enjoy.

The legend, The God. Jimi Hendrix is one of those people you just have to listen to, regardless what musical genre you prefer. His music is immortal, his guitar-playing unrivaled by any other human to date, except maybe Shred Li. And that’s just a possibly.

So, in light of this I decided to hunt down the largest compilation of Jimi’s work. And lo, I struck the motherlode. 32 albums, 4.48 gB of pure musical delight. This is something, and I know I’ve said it before, that you NEED to download. This time though, if you DON’T download this, I will hunt you down, I will find you and I will fuck you your family, even that little squirrel in your fucking front yard.

Do not hesitate.
